Vacation

We spent the week in Nashville, TN. We stayed at a resort with Scott's parents. We spent the week relaxing, eating out, and shopping. Makayla had her first experience in a pool as well. She's still not sure about that. Here are a few pictures, I'll post more later.

School's Out!

Is it summer already?

Wow, 3 months has flown by! I can't believe school is out for the summer and my maternity leave is officially over. I went to school today to pack up my room for the summer and say goodbye to my eighth graders. My substitute, Kaley, was wonderful enough to pose with me. She did a fantastic job and I can't thank her enough. Teaching eighth graders the last few months of school is no easy task. Thank you Kaley! (She's going to be a mommy soon too!)

Busy Weekend

We were busy all weekend, running from one thing to another. Here are a few highlights of Makayla's:

Cousins Together at Last

My sister JoEllen made a quick trip to Indiana this week to visit our Grandma in the nursing home. This was the first time all the cousins have been together. JoEllen recruited her mother-in-law to come and help her with the babies (thank you Brenda!). What a trip it was for them! Their first out-of-state trip went smoothly. My sis sure has her hands full!

First Mother's Day

It was exciting to finally be able to celebrate Mother's Day. We spent the day by going to church and getting together with family. Makayla spent breakfast with her mom, lunch with my mom, and supper with Scott's mom. Happy Mother's Day everyone!

Ready for the Beach

We bought a swimsuit for Makayls over the weekend and we just had to try it on her. She wasn't as excited as us, but it was fun anyway. We are going on vacation soon and we hope she enjoys the pool. We'll see. Isn't she cute?

Tummy Time Again

I'm cute and I know it!

Makayla doesn't like to be on her tummy so Daddy found a solution: her boppy pillow. Makayla is becoming quite the drool monster so we have to keep a bib on her at all times. That's okay, I was wondering if we would ever get use out of all her pretty bibs!

2 Month Doctor Visit

New weight: 11 lbs, 8 oz
Height: 22 1/2 in

Today was rough, Makayla had her first three shots. It was hard seeing her in so much pain. Thankfully she settled down and went to sleep after the ordeal.

New Playmate

The three of us went to meet a newborn tonight. Our friends, Kent and Angie, adopted a precious little girl and she is one week old today! Her name is Meredith Caleigh. I thought Makayla was small until we met Meredith. It's crazy how babies grow before our eyes and we don't even realize it. Congrats Kent and Angie. Makayla and Meredith are sure to be good friends just like we were growing up.

Ohio Visit

Makayla was able to meet her cousins Jakobi and Maylee this weekend. They are my sister's kids. They had a good time "talking" to each other. So did the adults. The crazy thing is, Makayla is 9 weeks and they are 7 months! They were born 3 months early. It's amazing how much they have grown and how well they are doing. This was the first time I had been able to hold them and to see them since they came home from the hospital.

New Toy

Makayla has a new toy. She is very curious about the lights and music. She will kick her feet and flail her arms while staring at the lights. It gives Mommy and Daddy a brief break from trying to entertain her. And then she's right back to crying again! Our arms are sore, our backs are sore and our bodies are fatigued. When will this stage pass? She's a cutie but she sure has some lungs. We still love her.

Meeting New Relatives

Makayla got to meet her Grammy and Pappy L. and Grandma A. this past weekend for the first time. They are Florida snowbirds. Makayla is blessed to have so many Grandparents in her life!

Just wanted to let you know our darling beautiful daughter has a temper. We've been trying to capture her pouty lips for some time. It's so pathetic it's funny. Enjoy!

Six Weeks Old

Today Makayla is 6 weeks old! Wow, time flies. She slept 5 hours last night. Woohoo! We're making progress. Yesterday she went to the doctor for her second visit. She now weighs 10 pounds 3 ounces and is 21 1/2 inches long.

Another Milestone

Jennifer had a major birthday yesterday. She turned the big 30! She celebrated by eating at Chili's yesterday and watching "Fiddler on the Roof" at IWU. Today, Jen's parents had everyone over to their house for lunch. Scott's parents, and sister and family were there, and Jen's brother and family. A total of 16 people squeezed into their dining room. Too bad Jen's sister couldn't join us, but she's busy with her little ones in Ohio. We missed you sis!

Makayla was a hit at church again today. She wore her new dress that Grammy and Pappy Lewis sent her from Florida. She slept through church again. I hope Pastor Seitz doesn't get a complex!

Going to Church

Makayla went to church for the first time today. She slept through the whole thing! If she can sleep through Pastor Brian's worship time, she can sleep through anything! If you're in the area, check out Lakeview Wesleyan Church, we have a great time worshipping God through music.

One Month Old

Makayla turned one month old on Wednesday. My parents surprised us with a little party that evening. They brought a card, cake, ice cream, and a white and pink carnation. Thanks Mom and Dad!

New Swing

Makayla has not enjoyed her swing. This has been frustrating for us because she doesn't seem to like her bouncy seat either! We need something that will soothe her for a while so Jen can get things done, like take a shower! Our original swing was very nice (borrowed from Scott's sister), but for some reason Makayla screamed whenever we put her in it. So we went to BabiesRus Saturday and bought a new swing. She seems to tolerate it better and the lights catch her attention. The best part: it plugs in!!! No more expensive batteries.

Why is it that....
1. Makaya is an angel for her grandparents? "She never cries for us," they say. I keep telling them she has a bad temper, which must be from Scott, not me.

2. Grandma can get Makayla to sleep through the night, but her parents can't?


Makayla spent her first night away from her parents so that Mommy and Daddy could get a good night's rest. And we did! And then we were awoken at 8:15 a.m. to the phone ringing. It was Scott's mom bragging about how long Makayla slept. 7 1/2 hours she claims. Thanks MOM! Actually she gave me some good tips to try out. And I feel so rested. Let's make this a weekly thing shall we???? :)

Nice Day for a Stroll

Today Mommy and I tried out my stroller for the first time. We walked all over IWU campus. I loved it so much I slept through the whole thing. I like being pushed around, especially in such nice weather.

Family Weekend

This past weekend my sister and her 3 year old daughter came to visit from Ohio.
Saturday we had a houseful: my parents; my grandma; my brother, his wife, and two daughters; my sister and her daughter. Despite all the noise, Makayla slept through it all! She even slept through American Idol Karaoke on Playstation 2!

First Doctor Visit

Today we took Makayla to her first doctor appointment. She has gained weight! She now weighs 7 lb 13.5 oz. The doc says she looks healthy.

My mom has been helping me the last two days since Scott has gone back to work. It's WONDERFUL to have someone to cook and clean and talk to. Thanks mom!

Makayla spent some tummy time today. She likes to be on her stomach. She is good at raising her head, stretching her arms, and kicking her feet.
