2 Months

The twins are really growing! Ella now weighs 8 lbs 10 oz and Ava weighs 8 lbs 2 oz. They are starting to sleep longer between feedings at night. Praise the Lord! Both girls are starting to coo a bit and Ella has been caught smiling some. Makayla can't wait until the girls can play with her. She already can get them to stop crying just by getting in their faces and talking to them. I found her playing doctor with Ava the other day. Ava was in her bouncy seat and Makayla had diagnosed her with "scratchitis" because she had a scratch on her face. She has been watching the new show, "Doc McStuffins." This is my second week picking up Makayla from preschool with the twins. Makayla loves to show the twins off.

Easter Sunday

One Month

I can't believe the twins are a month old already! Today they had their one month checkup. Ava weighs 5lbs 14oz. Ella weighs 6lbs 8 oz. Yay! Hepatitis B vaccinations - boo. :(

We are starting to have a routine. Thankfully both girls have their days and nights figured out. The hardest part is trying to feed them when they are BOTH awake and hungry and I am by myself. Last night I tried feeding them at the same time in their rock and play sleepers. It calmed them both down, but it got a little messy. I am really tired today since I had to get up this morning and take them to the doctor. I usually try to sleep a little bit after their 9am feeding. Hopefully I can get more rest tonight.

Makayla has been a big help. She has been coming home right after preschool this week instead of going to grandmoms. She is so grown-up now. She made her own sandwich for lunch today and likes to rock the babies. It really bothers her when the babies cry.

Day 18

The twins have been home for 5 days now. We took them for their first doctor visit today. Ava now weighs 5 lbs 1.2oz, and Ella weighs 5lbs 3oz. They LOVE to eat now and act like they are starving. Ella stays awake often between feedings and likes to look around. So far Ella is our diva and demands to be held.

Day 14

We are home! Both girls were able to be discharged on the same day. Praise the Lord! We thought Ella would come home first, but Ava caught up and even passed her sis on weight. As of this morning Ava weighed 4lbs, 10 oz and Ella weighed 4lbs, 9 oz. They are exactly the same length now. Thank you for all your prayers, and keep them coming!

Day 12

Finally got our photo back from the Photographer. The girls are 26 hours old here. Ava is on the left and Ella is on the right. If you look close you can see a spot near Ava's right eye. This has since gone away. They are truely identical girls.

Latest update: Both girls are taking 96% of their feeds. Ava weighs 4lbs, 6 oz and Ella weighs 4lbs, 7 oz. We hope to have them home soon!

Day 10

Good news! The girls have made progress with their feedings. Ava has increased her weight and is catching up to Ella. The girls have been released to my room now for feedings and just need to check in with the nursery every once in a while. Pray for me as I spend the first night with them in my room. Tonight the girls had some visitors to hold them, which they both love.

Day 7

Both girls increased their feedings today. Ella couldn' t keep up so she had to get a feeding tube like Ava. Overall Ella is eating better, so we plan on her coming home first. She needs a few days of eating well before she can be released. Ava still has issues with spitting up after her feedings. Makayla visited with her sisters today and posed for some pictures.

Good news! Ava was cleared today to come for visits in our room between feedings. It's so nice to have both girls together. We are optimistic that Ella will be coming home soon. Ava will have to stay a littler longer but hopefully will join us soon.

Day 5

This morning the girls were weighed again. Ava is down to 4lbs 1oz. Ella is 4 lbs 2oz. Ava has lost more weight than they want, so she is being monitored more closely. She can not leave the CCN yet. We can go see her anytime and help with feedings. She needed her feeding tube once this morning to help finish her bottle. Ella is able to stay in our room between feedings, and hopefully soon she can take bottles in the room as well.

Day 4 Continued

Ava has a feeding tube now to help supplement her bottles. However, she hasn't had to use it yet. I was able to feed both girls at 9pm and both ate well. The girls can come to the room just like before, but they have a more structurede feeding time and have to be assessed more often. Although we are disappointed we can't come home yet, we are glad the girls are getting the care they need. We are praying they start to gain weight now. Thank you all for your prayers.

Day 4

The twins were just moved to the continuing care nursery for closer monitoring and feeding. They aren't ready to come home yet due to not keeping down all their feedings. They will be here at least another 2 days. Please continue to pray that they start to gain weight. I am doing well and will be discharged tomorrow. I should be able to stay here with the girls if a room is available.

Day 3

The twins are doing well! The only issue they have is spitting up formula. We switched to soy today to see if that helps. Their big sis had to take soy so it may run in the family. Let's just blame Scott on this one, okay? :)

We are hoping the girls can come home with me tomorrow. Everything looks good, but we will get the final word tomorrow. I am healing nicely. I am able to walk around on my own and have been able to keep the pain down with meds. Praise the Lord for that! I am ready to get this family back home and try to get in some kind of routine. Until then, enjoy the pictures!

Identical Twin girls

Hello--this is Jennifer's Sister, JoEllen. I was in charge of updating the background, header and side bar to this blog. I hope you like the NEW look. :) I figured while I am here, I would update you on the twins. These two sweet miracles will be here tomorrow morning, February 13th! Jennifer is scheduled for a C-Section tomorrow morning in Indy at 9:30 am. Please pray all goes well! Thank you.

Preschool Picture

How she has changed in a year! What a grown-up 4 year old!

Makayla goes to preschool 5 mornings a week and loves it! She comes home telling us all kinds of stories and sings us songs. She has made a few good "best" friends as well.

HAPPY 4TH BIRTHDAY!

Makayla had a royal party last night with her cousins. We had two Cinderellas, Snow White, a prince, and even a pirate crashed the party. She had a great evening celebrating with family. Her castle cake was made by Grandmom Avery and it was a masterpiece. You really outdid yourself this year! Makayla is already planning next year's party - a dinosaur theme. We will see if she sticks with that!

Makayla sure has come a long way with cooperating with pictures. She did great today! She even did some poses herself. I can't believe my baby girl is almost four!

Gingerbread House

Makayla and Mommy have been enjoying time off from work and school. Today we tackled a Gingerbread House. Mommy added the icing and Makayla decorated. What a wonderful mess we made!

Makayla was very meticulous with the roof. Each gum drop was placed with precision.

Preschool Christmas Program

Makayla had her first preschool program on Dec. 14. Her class sang two songs and recited a poem. Makayla seemed to have more fun laughing at the boy next to her than singing, but she sure looked cute!

Disney Live Magic Show

On Thursday we took Makayla to see Disney's Live Magic Show. We all had a great time!
